Understanding Mental Health
Psychological services can be the right answer for the right problem. Throughout life, we may face circumstances that cause a variety of stressors or emotions that shape and impact our wellbeing. These stressors can come from a variety of situations and traumas within our workplaces, our personal lives or from unknown sources. In some cases, a person's ability to navigate the impact of these situations can be compromised, making them feel helpless and left to struggle. When left for a prolonged period, a person may experience a disruption in their physical and mental health that effects their day-to-day lives. This is when psychological services become the best pathway.
We believe that it is possible to live a healthy and happy life.
You don't need to struggle
“Without mental health, there can be no true physical health.” - World Health Organization
Our mental health and wellbeing are connected to our emotions and thoughts. This part of us helps us solve problems, connect socially and assists us to navigate difficulties.
Like other areas of our body, our mental health can become stressed, overwhelmed or deficient which can result in an inability to function in a healthy and happy way. It is important to find solutions and strategies that are right for you and your long-term health and wellbeing. Psychological services create the space to understand where you’re at, how you got there, and how you can move forward.
Knowing the signs
Although we all respond differently to pressure, there are a few signs that may indicate the presence of mental stress. The following signs can help indicate if you would benefit from our psychological services and support:
- Long-lasting sadness or irritability
- Extreme high and low moods
- Excessive fear, worry or anxiety
- Social withdrawal
- Changes in eating or sleeping habits
- Feelings of guilt or worthlessness
If you, or a loved one, are experiencing any signs, now is the time to get support towards wellness.
Partnering with a psychologist
We understand that seeing a psychologist might be a vulnerable experience. Our psychologists create a safe, comfortable environment where you can feel supported to share some of the difficulties you’ve faced. Our psychological services recognise that vulnerability is a process. You can share as much as feel comfortable sharing. But remember that seeing a psychologist is also rewarding. Over time, as you grow in trust, you will start to experience the fruit of digging deep.
While psychologists don’t prescribe medications, they do provide you with alternative methods to process any pain or distress. You might not feel well straight after your first sessions. Unpacking psychological pain can sometimes be more painful than the experience that led you to seek psychological services. When you are processing trauma or pain, the emotions feel fresh. We compare it to cleaning an open wound. Cleansing a wound will hurt, but ultimately, it will only lead to wellness.
How can a psychologist help me?
Psychological services cover a variety of areas such as depression, anxiety, stress, behavioural disorders, and more. You will first talk through the issues that might be bothering you, so the psychologist can assess the big picture. Then they create a treatment plan for you. A psychologist will provide an empathetic and professional environment to help you make the most out of your sessions. You can work towards positive change and learn how to cope with emotional and situational challenges.
Are you familiar with therapeutic modalities?
Psychological services engage the following therapeutic modalities:
- Mindfulness-based therapy
- Cognitive behaviour therapy
- Schema therapy and attachment styles
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
- and more.
Mental wellbeing closely impacts every other area of your life. Everyone is unique and no situation is the same, so we approach psychological services with that perspective. From your physical health to your emotional health, engaging with the right approach is important to heal altogether. Psychological services require a multidisciplinary team to provide the right support. The different disciplines will contribute something unique to the equation.
