These stressors can come from a variety of situations and traumas, within our workplaces, our personal lives or from unknown sources.  In some cases, a person's ability to navigate the impact of these situations can be compromised, making them feel helpless and left to struggle. When left for a prolonged period, a person may experience a disruption in their physical and mental health that effects their day-to-day lives.

Our mental health and wellbeing are connected to our emotions and thought. It is the part of us that helps us solve problems, connect socially and assists us to navigate difficulties.

Like other areas of our body, our mental health can become stressed, overwhelmed or deficient which can result in an inability to function in a healthy and happy way. It is important to find solutions and strategies that are right for you and your long-term health and wellbeing.

Knowing the signs

Although we all respond differently to duress there are a few signs that may indicate the presence of mental stress. The following signs can help indicate if you would benefit from professional support:

  • Long-lasting sadness or irritability
  • Extreme high and low moods
  • Excessive fear, worry or anxiety
  • Social withdrawal
  • Changes in eating or sleeping habits
  • Feelings of guilt or worthlessness
